Free Wedding Photography - Information & Details

(This section of the page includes a number of photos from the last wedding I photographed - for free - which happened to be in the Chicago area)

The Idea

From my years of learning photography (a journey which is still very much in process) I have discovered a tremendous need for material that will help a person learn about photography - in a clear method using photos that are not indecent. I am now in the beginning stages of creating an eBook about "How to Photograph Weddings".

The Need

In order to have more photos available to use in such a resource, I am looking for conservative, Christian weddings with modest attire that are (preferably) within driving distance of the Kansas City area -- although anywhere in the US is acceptable. Each wedding that I photograph usually results in almost 1,000 images. And while it is helpful to have a large "pool" of images to use when creating the book, I think it is important that the "pool" of images comes from a number of different weddings...

My Normal Rate

My normal fee for photographing a wedding has been $1,250 + all travel expenses. I have purposely kept my rates low over the years because I prefer working with Christian couples - and they usually do not have extravagant wedding budgets. If the wedding was a local Kansas City wedding, the total price usually came to $1,250. If the wedding was within a day's drive the total cost usually ended up closer to $1,600. If the wedding involved airline flights, the total cost often came to about $2,000.

The Proposition

Because I am needing additional photos for my eBook about "Learning Wedding Photography", I am looking for conservative Christian weddings with modest attire - that I can photograph for free. The only thing I ask is that my travel expenses be covered. In the Kansas City area, that will be minimal. Within a day's drive of Kansas City it would involve a rental car, some gas, lodging, and meals. Beyond a day's drive it would also involve airfare.

The Challenge

The wedding will need to fit a list of criteria and will need to be at a time when I am available. Because of our family's Titus2 ministry, we are often traveling for three or so months of the year. Here is an idea of our current upcoming travel/conference schedule.

The Criteria

Here are the main criteria I've set for weddings that will be featured in the eBook:

  • First wedding for bride and/or groom
  • Valid marriage license
  • No alcohol
  • No dancing
  • Modest attire for bride and bridesmaids
    • Modesty is hard to define. For this wedding I'm looking for the bridal dress and bridesmaids dresses to:
      • Not have low cut fronts (no more than about 3 inches below the neck)
      • Not be sleeveless (short or long sleeve is fine)
      • Must have a back that isn't see-through
  • Bride and groom, along with wedding party, willing to sign model releases.

The Disclaimer

Please understand that even if your wedding meets the above criteria, do not assume I am available to photograph your wedding. Each potential wedding will be evaluated further and may or may not be acceptable for this project! I prayerfully consider each wedding before accepting it.
